HONDURAS

In September 1964, when four Canadian Sisters were missioned to Honduras it created a missionary enthusiasm in the Congregation that lives on to this day. Called by the Priests of Foreign Missions to evangelize in every way, but especially by forming catechists, the Sisters first settled in Nacaome, San Lorenzo and Goascoran, later in Tegucigalpa.

Foundations follow one after the other as the Canadian sisters answered the missionary call to that land. Evangelization and social advancement are carried on simultaneously by the Missionaries, but catechesis is their principal preoccupation. Diverse movements are created for young people, women and in answer to parish services.

In Honduras, where drought and floods follow one another, the sisters live in solidarity with the populations that are suffering. They find the essential collaboration and support they need for their apostolic action from pastors, missionaries of other religious communities and the Co-members.

Since 1981, in Tegucigalpa and then in Yuscaran, in 1995, a novitiate offers young girls from Latin America who are drawn to the mission of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, the possibility of verifying God's call to religious life and of answering it.
