PERU

In 1981, in response to a request from the Franciscans, a first mission was opened in Pevas, Peru in the Amazon rain forest. The welcome of the metis and natives of several tribes, who speak Spanish and Quechua, was friendly and eased the adaptation to new customs and a better inculturation of the evangelical message.

The needs and the calls for help kept growing. In 1985, Sisters were sent to Tamshiyacu, to Comas in 1989, a shanty town of Lima, Villa Sol in 1995 and Pativilca a small village surrounded by sugar cane plantations to the north of the Capital and along the Pacific Coast.

As in the rain forest, the sisters accompany and form leaders for the Christian communities and for various movements for adults, youth and children. Depending on the places, they assure a discreet or reliable presence in some educational centers. The sacramental and the vocational pastoral ministries carried out in collaboration with the Co-members, are beginning to assure a continuity in the Peruvian Church and in our Congregation.
