THE CENTER OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION CELEBRATES ITS THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY
2012-10-10

equipe30.jpgFrom the time of its foundation, The Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary have been teachers in schools. However a change in orientation occurred in 1982 with the opening of a Center of Christian Education. Saturday, September 22, a celebration was held to underscore the event including a number of persons from the pastoral milieu.

It was a great day; the participants with the religious and laic personnel of the Center, recalled the principal events and their commitment over the thirty years. It was a time for the group to express the spirit of the celebration with joy and thanksgiving.

Thirty years in which the Word of God, the Good News, was implicated and contemplated, written to be seen, enlivened by liturgical gestures, sung and planted into the hearts of youth. It involved everyday life, prayed through music and given attention by the media. Those invited recognized their own experiences. Why involve the pastoral ministers among the invited guests? It was to make this meeting an event of the Church: "To be together to give the Holy Spirit a place that would enlarge our tent and lengthen our ties." Actually we opted to continue to give wings to the Good News which was the theme of the day.

Bishop Pierre-André Fournier was an active participant generous in his words expressed at conclusion to the day as celebrant of the Eucharist. The day was one where Christ was present at each activity.

But this was a just beginning event. Other groups will be invited to share the Word during the year.

messe30.jpgWe also give thanks with the Community and Associate Members as with our numerous friends. The "rendez-vous" was determined at the Eucharist the next day. Together, at this gathering we became aware of the length, width and depth of the grace given to the Congregation when inspired to create a Center of Christian Education. It is a privileged means of assuring the continuation of the noble Mission confided to Elisabeth Turgeon and her daughters, "in fidelity to our foundress", as was stated by the Sunday Celebrant, Father Benoît Hins,Vicar General. "Be witnesses to the ends of the earth", he added, "That is what she did by coming from Beaumont to Rimouski in her day."

"Celebrating thirty years of the Center is celebrating an anniversary; it becomes an occasion to see the road traveled and to give thanks for the work we've done. However, it also means looking to the future to foresee a fiftieth anniversary. That will surely occur if the spirit of the beginnings, the same spirit that is still with those, presently in charge, continues to grow."

LAND  of  HOPE

livre.jpgThis new book entitled Land of Hope is the translation of « Par-delà le Fleuve », written by Sr. Anita Aspirot and published in French in July 2008. It makes known the history of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary on the Lower North Shore of Quebec. In fidelity to Elisabeth Turgeon their foundress, the members of our Congregation devote themselves in the field of education and manifest the tender and caring love of Jesus and Mary, His Mother, giving priority to the young, wherever they are called to ministry.

An introduction to this part of our country allows us to get a glimpse of its vastness and experience its quietness and silence. It leads us to discover a « new » world and be charmed by its values. We enter into the daily life of the sisters who carried out their mission and who continue to serve the Church in this specific region.

This English version has been translated by Sr. Edwina Bouchard, R.S.R. and is on sale at 20$ + shipping charges.
